When you schedule routine air conditioning maintenance, a lot of things happen. Your electrical connections are checked, your blower assembly is adjusted, your coils are cleaned, and so on. However, your ductwork is not going to be extensively inspected as part of the AC maintenance package. You may not give your air ducts all that much consideration on a day to day basis, but the fact of the matter is that leaky ductwork can actually cause a number of different problems in your home. How, though, can one determine if his or her air ducts are leaking? Here are a few warning signs to be aware of.
Reduced Efficiency Levels
Keep an eye on your utility bills during the summer season. Have you noticed that they are spiking, despite the fact that you have not been using your system any more than normal? If so, contact a member of our staff right away. This could be the result of air leaks in your ductwork system causing your AC to work overtime.
Plummeting Indoor Air Quality
Does it seem as though your floors, countertops, and other surfaces are looking a bit dingier than usual? That could be the result of leaky ductwork as well. Compromised air ducts can allow pollutants to infiltrate the system. Once that happens, those air ducts can then distribute those pollutants all throughout your home. Sneezing and coughing more than usual? You may need professional duct sealing in Everett, WA.
Hissing and Whistling Sounds
You may actually be able to hear the air leaking out of your air ducts, as well. If your system seems to be whistling or hissing as it is working away to cool your home, give us a call. This is indicative of air leaking out of tight openings in your air ducts.
