Everett, WA Ductless Splits by G & S Heating Cooling & Electric

A lot of people ask about why they should install a ductless split system over more central heating and cooling. It’s a valid question. After all, ductless splits are only capable of serving one room per unit. Knowing that, wouldn’t it always be preferable to install a centralized system instead? No! Ductless splits actually have quite a few advantages to recommend them, and in some situations are far more preferable than a central system. Let G & S Heating Cooling & Electric walk you through the wondrous technology behind ductless splits, and why you may want to consider using them in your home.

G & S Heating Cooling & Electric provides outstanding ductless split services throughout Everett, WA.

What is a Ductless Split System?

First, let’s talk about what a ductless split system actually is. A ductless split is a heat pump, moving pre–existing heat from one place to another instead of burning fuel to create its own. It’s actually pretty similar to an air conditioner in terms of its construction. There are at least two units involved in any ductless system, just like an air conditioner, one installed in the room and one installed on the outside of the house. When the system is turned on, one unit will begin to evaporate refrigerant within a coil housed inside it. The refrigerant gas absorbs thermal energy from the surrounding air. Then, the refrigerant travels to the other unit to be condensed back into a liquid. This releases the thermal energy to be blown out into the space.

What makes a ductless split system more than a simple air conditioner is the ability to actually reverse the flow of refrigerant within its system. This allows the ductless split to move heat both ways, allowing for heating and cooling functions. The ability to act as both a heater and an air conditioner is just one of the advantages to choosing a ductless split system.

Why Choose Ductless Heating and Cooling?

Ductless heating and cooling offers a wide range of unique advantages. As previously mentioned, the ability to both heat and cool a room with the same unit saves both space and money that would otherwise be consumed by another distinct system.

Ductless systems are also much more energy efficient than central heating and cooling. The US Department of Energy has estimated that the average central forced air heating and cooling system loses as much as 30% of its output to leaks in the ductwork. That’s a massive waste of energy that you are still paying for. A ductless split delivers all of its heating and cooling output directly to the room it serves, saving it from a massive energy loss.

Finally, ductless split systems are more convenient than central forced air systems. When a central heating or air conditioning system is turned on, it conditions the entire house equally regardless of each room’s actual need. As different rooms often have different heating and cooling rates, this can lead to uncomfortable cold spots. Ductless splits give you a much finer control over each room in your house, allowing you to decide which rooms receive heating or cooling at which times. You can even have up to 4 ductless units share a single outside unit, allowing you to cover more indoor space with less equipment.
